Taking our name from the prominent pioneer of the women’s movement in New Zealand, Kate Sheppard Midwifery has been in operation since January 2000. Since then, our team have confidently delivered over 10 000 beautiful babies into the world.

When you choose your LMC (lead maternity carer) there are some important questions to ask:

• Who will provide your care during your pregnancy, labour and birth and during the post natal period?
• Will your LMC work in a safe manner ensuring that all your care needs are met during your pregnancy, labour and birth and during your post natal period?
• Will your LMC get to know you as a person?
• Will your LMC listen to what you want?
• What happens if you need specialist care during your pregnancy and/or your labour and birth?
• Will you have met your care givers (either the midwife or the doctor) or will you be meeting them for the first time on the day you have your baby?
• What level of training have they had and how much experience have they had?

It can feel overwhelming when you have to choose your LMC and what form of care you would like to have. At Kate Sheppard midwifery we have a pregnancy consultant who can inform you of all your options of care to enable you to choose the form of care you will be most comfortable with.

We have a group of independent midwives who will provide friendly professional care throughout your pregnancy, your labour and birth and up until four to six weeks after the birth of your baby. You can be confident in knowing that your midwife will listen to you, get to know you as a person and enter into a relationship of care which is partnership based in order to meet all your needs.

We offer private specialist obstetric shared care options should you choose that you want to have a specialist obstetrician involved in your pregnancy care and your labour and birthing care. Thereby ensuring that you have complete peace of mind that all your care needs will be met.

Kate Sheppard provides a totally free midwifery care service which is funded by the New Zealand ministry of health (provided you meet the ministry of health criteria). The only charge is when you choose to have specialist obstetric care.
